COMPLIN IN CHRISTMASTIDE

Hail Mary, secretly.

V. Convert us, O God our Saviour.
R. And turn away Thine anger from us.
V. Come unto my help, O God.
R. O Lord, make haste to help me.
V. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.
R. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Alleluia or Praise be to Thee, O Lord, King of everlasting glory.

Psalm 128. Sæpe expugnaverunt me
Confidence in God; the persecutors of the Church come to nothing.

1 Many a time have they fought against me from my youth up * let Israel now say.
2 Many a time have they fought against me from my youth up * but they could not prevail against me.
3 The wicked have wrought upon my back: * they have prolonged their iniquity.
4 The just Lord hath hewn asunder the necks of sinners: * let them all be confounded and turned back that hate Sion.
5 Let them be as grass upon the house-tops * that withereth before it be plucked up.
6 Wherewith the mower filleth not his hand * nor he that gathereth the sheaves, his bosom.
7 And they that passed by said not: * The blessing of the Lord be upon you. We have blessed you in the name of the Lord.
Glory Be.

Psalm 129. De profundis
Prayer of a sinner trusting in the mercies of God.

1 Out of the depths have I cried unto Thee, O Lord: * Lord, hear my voice.
2 O let Thine ears consider well * the voice of my supplication.
3 If Thou, O Lord, wilt mark iniquities * Lord, who shall abide it?
4 For with Thee there is merciful forgiveness * and because of Thy law have I waited for Thee, O Lord.
5 My soul hath waited on His word: * my soul hath hoped in the Lord.
6 From the morning watch even until night * let Israel hope in the Lord.
7 For with the Lord there is mercy * and with Him there is plenteous redemption.
8 And He shall redeem Israel * from all his iniquities.
Glory Be.

Psalm 130. Domine, non est exaltatum
A psalm of childlike resignation to God’s will.

1 Lord, my heart is not exalted: * neither are mine eyes lifted up.
2 Neither have I walked in great matters, * nor in things too wonderful for me.
3 If I was not humbly minded * but have lifted up my soul:
4 As a child that is weaned from his mother’s breast, * so let my reward be in my soul.
5 Let Israel hope in the Lord, * from henceforth now and evermore.
Glory Be.

Hymn

Remember, O Creator Lord!
That in the Virgin’s sacred womb
Thou wast conceived, and of her flesh
Didst our mortality assume.

Mother of grace, O Mary blest!
To thee, sweet fount of love, we fly;
Shield us through life, and take us hence
To thy dear bosom when we die.

O Jesu! born of Virgin bright!
Immortal glory be to Thee;
Praise to the Father infinite,
And Holy Ghost eternally. Amen.

The Little Chapter Eccl. 24, 24.
I am the Mother of fair love, and of fear, and of knowledge, and of holy hope.
R. Thanks be to God.
V. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God.
R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

In Paschal time, the following antiphon is said:
Ad Nunc dimittis Ant: Queen of heaven.

Ad Nunc dimittis Ant: A great mystery of inheritance.

Canticle of Simeon. Luke 2, 29-32.
1 Now dost Thou dismiss Thy servant, O Lord, * according to Thy word, in peace.
2 Because mine eyes * have seen Thy salvation;
3 Which Thou hast prepared * before the face f all peoples.
4 A Light to the Revelation of the Gentiles, * and the Glory of Thy people Israel.
Glory Be.

In Paschal time:
Ad Nunc dimittis Ant: Queen of heaven, rejoice, alleluia. For He whom thou wast meet to bear, alleluia. Hath arisen, as He said, alleluia. Pray to God for us, alleluia.

Ad Nunc dimittis Ant: A great mystery of inheritance! The womb of one that knew not man hath become the Temple of God; taking flesh of her, He was not defiled. All nations shall come, saying, Glory be to Thee, O Lord.

Lord, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.
V. O Lord, hear my prayer.
R. And let my cry come unto Thee.

Let us pray. O God, who, by the fruitful virginity of blessed Mary, hast bestowed upon mankind the rewards of eternal salvation; grant, we beseech Thee, that we may fell her intercession for us, through whom we have been made worthy to receive the Author of life, our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, who with Thee liveth and reigneth in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end.
R. Amen.
V. O Lord, hear my prayer.
R. And let my cry come unto Thee.
V. Let us bless the Lord.
R. Thanks be to God.

Benediction
May the Almighty and merciful Lord, Father, and Son, and Holy Ghost, bless and preserve us.
R. Amen.

Then is said one of the Anthems of the Blessed Virgin.
